Main Types of Industrial Equipment

Here is a rundown of some of the more common pieces of industrial equipment:

Mechanical Press

A mechanical press is a type of machine or piece of equipment that is designed to form, shape or cut materials through the exertion of force. The force is created by a purely mechanical means. A mechanical press can also be utilized to extract liquids from an object or to compress solids. Up until the early 1990s, the mechanical press was the most widely used piece of equipment of its type around the world.

Hydraulic Press

A hydraulic press actually has the same intended purposes as does a mechanical press. A hydraulic press is designed to form, shape or cut materials through the exertion of force. However, the hydraulic press differs from a mechanical press in that the hydraulic press utilizes fluids in order to affect the pressure needed to accomplish the intended task. Beginning in the early 1990s, the hydraulic press became ever more common. Indeed, by 1991, the hydraulic press was in far wider use that was the once dominating mechanical press.

Broaching Machine

The broaching machine is utilized to finish different types of surfaces. The broaching machine functions with a series of cutting teeth. The cutting teeth at the front end of the broach are shorter. The teeth increase in size very slowly was they move to the rear of the broach. When the machine is utilized, each tooth removes a fraction of an inch from the surface until the entire broaching process has been completed. This machine, through the manner in which it operates, allows for great precision in its operation.

EDM Machine

The EDM machine is designed to create certain shapes and geometries that are then utilized in different parts or assemblies. The shapes and forms that are created by the EDM machine can be very simple or extremely complex. The EDM machine utilizes electrical discharges in order to accomplish its task. The EDM machine continually proves to be a very efficient and cost effective piece of equipment for fashioning shapes and geometries that do have a wide variety of highly specified usages.

Rotary Surface Grinder

The rotary surface grinder is utilized in the process of proving what perhaps can best described as a rough finish to a surface. The grinder can be utilized in the rough finishing of a wide array of different types of surfaces from woods to metals and other types of surfaces in between. It remains one of the most widely utilized pieces of equipment in dozens of different industries today.

Boring Mill

The main purpose of a drilling mill is to increase the size of a previously drilled or created hole. This is done in order to ensure the appropriate degree of finish and to ensure that the hole absolutely meets appropriate specifications. There are two common types of drilling mills: the horizontal boring mill and the vertical boring mill.

High Pressure Die Casting Equipment

High pressure die casting machines are widely utilized in manufacturing today. The machine takes a molten substance (commonly aluminum) and through the use of incredible pressure molds the molten substance into a product. There are also several different aluminum alloys that commonly are utilized in the die casting process today.

Core Cutting Lines

Core cutting lines are pieces of equipment that are designed to drill and create perfectly rounded holes and to perform similar operations as part of an overall manufacturing process. Moreover, there are various other types of core cutting systems that play roles in both manufacturing and in construction.

Winding Machines

Winding machines are designed to roll coils and to undertake similar functions and processes as part of manufacturing.
